I shall comment on the ATH-E70 for non professional use, for enjoying modern and classical music as an audiophile, not a musician, neither a sound engineer.
A first ATH that was sent to me never worked properly : it sounded awfull with no bass and saturated highs. I sent it back to Thomann and I got very quickly a new product. Great service as usual ; congratulations to Thomann.
The 2nd ATH that I received worked slightly better ; at least It has bass, provided the adequate eartips are used. They have to be as large as your ear can accept in order to have satisfactory. Incidentally, this also creates good insulation from ambiant noise, but that will be the case with every earbud.
Still, I am not totally happy with the sound because of mediums and highs saturation, but it depends very much on the source/amp.
I first tried my ATH-E70 connected to the IEM output of my RME ADI2-DAC. The result is awfull : saturation. Maybe the ADI2 is still to powerful even through the IEM output. Maybe there is specifically a bad impedance pairing because I do not hear similar issues with other phones connected to the ADI2.
Fortunately, to my big surprise and my enjoyment, I get very good sound when connecting the ATH-E70 to my Iphone SE or my iPad directly from their 3,5 mm jack.
My perception, without measurement, is that the response curve is V shaped. Bass is quite deep, tight and not boomy and highs are very clear and well defined.
As a conclusion, I have eventually com to like my ATH-E70 when used as earbuds directly plugged into my phone. From my experience, the common wisdom that powerful headphones amps improve the sound does not apply to the ATH-E70.
