I usually do a couple of rehearsals a week and jazz duo or trio gigs when possible. My current basses include a 2004 Fender but this 5-string fretted bass is even better. I wanted the flexibility to go to Eb and lower, but so much else in the whole instrument has been vastly improved over the years.
The sound balance is excellent, and the set-up as received near perfect. I changed from the supplied Fender strings to d’Addario flat wound (personal preference) and find the combination of the comfortable neck and all the above provide the best playing experience I have had yet.
I have only one trivial negative comment, which is that there are only 20 frets - but I knew that before I bought it, and counted on Fender’s usually high standards.
For my money this beautiful instrument represents very good value indeed, and I have no hesitation in recommending it, especially for all types of jazz performance. Please note, though, it does not sound like an upright bass - it has its own unique round warmth, though its tone range allows wide variation which could suit any style.
