Gretsch Drums Catalina Club Studio YSF

Hi, I'm mainly a guitarist and a self taught drummer who plays garage rock, psych and stuff. This is my third drum kit and I must say that this is a serious one and I've got it for more than a year now. Everything from the way it looks (sooo vintagey), the way it sounds, the way it plays and last but obviously not least, the way it keeps tuning at any pitch is what makes this set high quality. Mahogany as a tonewood is very warm and mellow and it really sings when you tune it higher, in a more bebop way. I mean, yes you can easily play jazz on this set. On the other hand, when you tune these drums lower they growl in a beautiful way, making them perfect for rock, folk etc. The heads are nothing special and you replace them with fresh remos you unlock far more better sounds and possibilities. The only thing of this kit that I don't use is the snare. It's nothing wrong with it and the building quality is alright and I guess with new heads it would sound cool but for the genres I play I totally prefer aluminium snares. All in all, you won't regret buying this beauty.
