If you're looking for a "swiss army knife" sort of mic, I think the Nt2A is the best choice for the budget...I haven't tried the other mics in its category like the AT2050 by audio technica, but for starters the NT2A has a better build quality in my opinion.
By comparing the sound of the NT2A to my old SE 2200a on vocals, the NT2A has a slightly "nasal" quality...nothing that you can't fix with some EQ, but just bear in mind that it doesn't have the best frequency response in the world, it's not a flat mic with very natural sound on vocals, let's say it adds some warmth to the voice, it's up to you if you like it or not...As for me I think it needs less mids and more air...
In conclusion, I highly recommend this mic if you're looking for something with multiple polar patterns and can't afford a Neumann U87.
