I had an idea already how good this drum sounds since I've tried it in a music shop before. This instument can be played with a special support you will have to get as an extra, or lapstyle. There is four parts where you can play, the bass (low and high for each hole) , the drumhead , the snare ( bottom )
Playing lapstyle , I usually choose two spots to play, one hand for each , it feels more intuitive and I can play complex beats. The sounds you get are very special, with a touch of water and an hypnotic bass. I am sharing a record with Thomann to give a better idea of how good this instrument sounds than the current record.
Yes you will have to take care of the skin to protect it from cold and humidity, as every skinned drum.
Yes the instrument is slipping sometimes , you will have to find the right position. What I do is that I stall the top of the drum at the knee level where the junction of the leg is , so it is more stable.
There is a little hole so you can attach a tie mic, this drum is not as powerful as a djembé so dependind the situation where you play, although it works fine playing along a sitar or an harmonium, if you play along a didge, a mic is welcome.
Overall I highly recommend this drum for its versatily and how good it sounds, especially the bass and the sounds from the drumhead. Easy to transport , it is light and solid at the same time. I love how original and special this instrument sounds.
