greatest compromise between portability and functionality

I have a disease of buying too many keyboards. It's bad.
But... as I am obliged to sit at a computer all day for my job, when making music I find myself wanting to get away from my desk. I LOVE this keyboard for that, as it has just enough keys to be playable with 2 hands, it is extremely lightweight, but still the keys have a nice feel and are LONG enough. Same goes for the MIDI control: they added just enough functionality to control your DAW, and now the MK4 has a LED screen which makes it handy not having to remember so much in what mode you are working at the moment.

Best affordable keyboard controller for Ableton

I've bought the Launchkey 37 in first place to be able to control Ableton Live more or less without a mouse - and in this regard, I am more than satisfied. It enables me to control everything I desire, directly from a controller. Additionally It has many useful features, like Arpeggiator, Scale and Chord Map – which I discovered recently – and everything is surprisingly readable on its quite small display. Regarding its portability, it’s not that small – but it has 37 full sized keys – which are a pleasure to play and comparable to other synths, in that price range. Although it’s lightweight, it gives a feeling of quality – especially the knobs and endless encoders. I have to use to the drum pads a bit, which are much softer than on the AKAI MPK II series. All-in-all a very good buy, and totally recommend to anyone trying to get a controller for Ableton, with just enough keys to play along.

Gute Funktionen und angenehme Drum Pads, aber...

Ich habe mir das Launchkey 37 MK4 geholt um es mit Logic für Live Performances und Aufnahmen zu nutzen.

Das Keyboard ließ sich Problemlos mit meinem Mac verbinden - Logic hat es direkt erkannt. Es ist gut in die Software integriert und ohne großen Einstellungsaufwand lassen sich Spuren, Instrumente etc. regeln.

Zur Verarbeitung:
Obwohl das Keyboard leicht ist, fühlt es sich sehr hochwertig an. Die Tasten haben die Standart Klaviertastengröße, was dass Spielen sehr angenehm macht. Die Drumpads reagieren gut und auch drüber streichen oder leichte Berührungen werden erkannt. Die Regler sind ohne Begrenzung und haben einen sehr angenehmen Widerstand, so dass sich damit sehr fein justieren lässt.

Kritik:
Die Einstellungstasten muss man ziemlich feste drücken und manchmal rasten diese zwar ein und machen ein Klickgeräusch, aber es folgt keine entsprechende Aktion. Erst nach noch festerem Drücken.

Letzendlich habe ich mich dafür entschieden, das Keyboard gegen das 49 MK4 umzutauschen, welches natürlich etwas größer, teurer und schwerer ist. Aber dafür leicht gewichtete Tasten hat, welche sich für mich viel besser spielen lassen.

Fazit:
Gutes Keyboard, lässt sich sehr schön mit Logic verbinden. Ein paar Tasten sind leider etwas schwergängig.
